Interior Design for Small Spaces
Interior design for small spaces is certainly a challenge. With a limited amount of room for furniture and storage, it may seem impossible to make your house or apartment feel stylish and comfortable. Luckily, by utilizing a few simple interior design tricks, you can make the most out of your limited space and transform your house or apartment into the home of your dreams. Today, Ellecor Interior Design discusses some easy tips for decorating small spaces.
Utilize Light, Neutral Colors
Color is one of the most important aspects of interior design, and the color palette you choose dramatically affects the feel of a room. Dark, moody colors will make a room feel small and cramped, while light, neutral colors will make a room feel large and open. When you are designing for a small room, stick with a light color palette, utilizing colors such as whites, light grays, and muted blues. These colors help guide the eye throughout the room and make it appear larger.
Hanging a mirror is one of the easiest ways to make a room feel larger. Carefully placing one large mirror or several small ones throughout a small room creates an illusion of depth and space, making your room feel large with little effort. Mirrors are also great decorative items that add more nuance and visual interest to your walls.
Opt Innovative Storage Solutions
In small houses and apartments, storage can be a huge hassle. With limited closet and cabinet space, you may have to try some innovative, non-traditional storage solutions. Try placing baskets under your bed, hanging hooks on your doors and walls, and installing shelving. By thinking outside-of-the-box, you can declutter and make your home feel large and open.
Connect with the Outdoors
The best interior design creates a seamless flow between the outdoors and the inside of the home. Spaces with plenty of natural light and views of the outdoor landscape feel bright, airy, and ultimately larger than enclosed interiors. When you are designing for a small space, find ways to connect your space to the outdoors, draw attention to your windows, and let in plenty of natural light.

We hear it all the time, “I can’t afford a Designer” and it’s just not true. It’s really not as elite as some think. Don’t get me wrong, there are really high end Designers who specialize in specific styles and sizes of homes, but the majority of us just love what we do and want to help as many people as we can. After all, we all deserve to have a beautiful, livable and comfortable home. At Ellecor we work with people on all scales, budgets and styles. We have simple meetings where we just choose some paint colors, some where we just rearrange everything you have to give it a facelift and some where we design, build and finish someone’s dream home. The ticket there is that it is YOUR dream home, not ours. Learning about our clients lifestyle, family life, likes and dislikes all plays into our plans and the eventual concept and feel of the finished space. We live, work and play in our home and can understand the wildly different lifestyles we all live. We are all busy, but we need a great space to finish the day in and start the next one feeling nice and refreshed. Come see us about your next Design updates.
We are so excited to have spent the last several months working with Essick Builders, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and all the amazing donors to create a beautiful home for a great cause. From exterior selections, flooring, paint cabinets and countertops and everything in between it has come together in short order and is stunning. We finished up this week by furnishing the home with donations from FFO Home, Ellecor Design & Gifts and several local artists. Stop in and check it out and purchase a ticket to win it!

We are very excited to be the Designer of this years Springfield MO St Jude Dream Home Giveaway. The home is being built by Essick Builders and a whole crew of donors and trade teams. Thanks for all the donors who make this possible and help give back to the research and treatment they do at St Jude. I am honored to be selecting all the finishes, fixtures, decor and furnishings for the house.
Tickets to win the home will be available in April and the drawing is this Summer. Stay tuned!!
